Not all cakes and play dough

I sometimes look at my personal facebook page which is full of smiling children painting, playing outside or making cakes and wonder what people think? Sometimes friends say things like ‘I don’t know how you do it?’ and I have to clarify that each photo is just a snapshot, each cake probably  resulted in an argument over who got to stir or lick the bowl, trips to the park start with discussions over who is wearing what coat, shoes or wellies, it can take me 10 minutes to get everyone out of the house.

I’m not complaining, I know how lucky I am, but that doesn’t mean that some days aren’t frustrating and difficult. No family nearby means everything is down to us and sometimes we struggle a little bit.

Hopefully this video explains it better than I can.

    What a lovely video Emma- your little family is just gorgeous. You look like you have some really fun, yet hectic I am sure, times! X

  2. I know exactly where you are coming from – I’m assumed to be supermum, people don’t realise I struggle, I have bad moments I shout we watch TV “ALOT” the pictures, the posts are snap shots in our life. My first blog the title says it all “Toddling into Madness” cause that’s what my life really is crazy, mad. I have days where I want to go back to bed at 7:30am!!!!!!!!! Our family live quite far away and we are new in the area it’s a struggle and not what people think it’s really like

  3. aaaahhh thats brilliant. We need the lows to appreciate the highs, and we cant all see eye to eye especially when they are trying to become individuals in their own right. And Im sure they will still want hugs when they are big, just NOT when they are teenagers. Daughter No2 still visits (at 32 yr old) when feeling ill and comes for a cuddle with mummy, No3 always gives a kiss and a hug when she leaves, and even drive me up the wall son No1 had a hug the other week after I ranted at him and he went off to sulk in his room and I went to apologies and he is 28!! your doing a great job

    • Thanks Elaine, and so very lovely to hear that your children still come to you when they need you xxx

  4. What an utterly gorgeous video and lovely kids too. I am not sure that mine will want hugs when they grow up; my daughter is seven and refused to kiss or cuddle me at the school drop off for the first time today *sniff* :-;

  9. Ahhh, this video is just beautiful Emma. It arrived in my inbox while I was up feeding a little lady and because the hubby is away I could watch it, it brought a tear to my eye. Being a mummy is definitely a rough and smooth kind of thing, but completely worth it. X

  21. This is such a lovely video and I get the same comments as people assume that I blog about EVERYTHING :D The photo with the stickers made me laugh and I filled up at the last one. I too really hope that when my boys are hairy, grumpy men that they still come to me for cuddles.

  27. Beautiful – I love putting together clips like this they remind me what all the difficult times are for. I did laugh when you said it could take you 10mins to get out the door – it often takes me much longer but I was a bit of a scatter brain even before the 4 children came along! xx
