How to Warm up your Laminate Flooring

Modified: Nov 10, 2023 · Published: Nov 5, 2021 by admin · This post may contain affiliate links or sponsored content

Nothing beats the sensation of getting up in the morning on a cold morning and putting your bare feet on a cold laminate flooring. Most flooring does not retain heat well, and your toes may suffer as a result. As the Black Friday UK fastly approaches, you might be thinking to just replace your entire flooring to something that’s a bit warmer. You don’t have to do that. Luckily, there are ways to insulate your laminate floors, making the entire area feel warm and inviting. From simple to more sophisticated options, here’s how to heat up your floors.

Selecting the appropriate underlayment

Because laminate flooring is made up of thin layers, it does not retain heat well. However, combining laminate flooring with a well-padded underlayment will help it keep some warmth. For laminate, a 3-5mm padded underlayment is usually the best option. If it’s thicker, it may compromise with the locking system of the floor.

If your laminate flooring is installed directly on a concrete subfloor, it will absorb the material’s bitterly cold features. A drafty feeling might occur during the winter even when you have plywood subfloors. The installation of an underlayment is the solution to this problem. This is placed on top of the subfloor but beneath the surface covering. A substantial layer of foam cushioning between the concrete and the laminate can help keep your floor warm.

Install underfloor heating

An underfloor heating system is one of the best ways to boost floor warmth. This technology radiates heat via an underlayment installed between the subfloor and the surface flooring. The radiant heating system transmits heat upward into a floor, making it warm beneath your feet. That heat also rises into the remainder of the room, effectively controlling the temperature. Radiant heating systems are most effective when highly conductive materials, such as tile and stone, are used.

Set up a fireplace

As you might expect, having a fireplace in your house may help to keep things warm and cozy. You can simply create a great mood by adding tile or natural stone around the fireplace, making your home incredibly snug and, of course, warm. Just one of those tried-and-true methods for warming up whole family room floors. We recognize that wood is not cheap and plentiful, but you can now acquire some much-needed heat with the push of a button through an electric fireplace. Surely, it can provide a lot of warmth during the chilly winter months when nothing else works.

Rugs are your best friend

If your laminate flooring is becoming cold as the winter months arrive, covering it with a rug is a lot more cost-effective choice than turning up the heat. This is a straightforward yet classic way to warm up the space while also making it more inviting. Talking areas and reading nooks can be fashioned out of bigger rooms with cleverly positioned area rugs. They can also be used to provide padding and warmth near beds, doors, and restrooms where people tend to be barefoot. Rug grips are recommended when installing a rug on laminate flooring to guarantee that it remains firmly in place.
