Tips For Choosing The Right Dental Implant

A dental implant is a procedure that can replace any gaps you have in your smile. These gaps may appear because of missing or broken teeth, two factors that can hurt your self-esteem.

A quick consultation with your dentist will reveal whether or not you are a suitable candidate for the dental implant procedure. Once finished, you are free to choose your type of implant. That’s right; there are several different types of dental implants that you can select. Let’s look at these different choices and discuss why someone would go in that direction.

Size

It would be best if you made one crucial choice: what size implant you would like fitted. Your dentist will better know what size fits in different parts of the mouth but consider other things.

There are three sizes of the dental implant. These are standard, wide and narrow. They all have a place in the mouth, but you may only want to have a small implant upfront to avoid making it obvious. In this case, it is best to select the standard size. However, the wide platform is probably best if you have a long gap.

Again, be honest with your dentist, and they will be better equipped to point you in the right direction.

Coatings

The type of coating you choose for your dental implant is key to determining the speed of the healing process. Choosing a rough material for your implant will help seal the tooth quicker, making it a substantial part of your mouth in no time at all.

However, a more metallic surface can look more like a natural tooth. There is plenty of other coating option to choose from, and you can find out more about dental implants in Brisbane at Pure Dentistry who offer a range of personalised dental services. Contact them to set up a consultation to find out what your options are.

You will probably want to choose a more natural-looking tooth for a space at the front, but the decision is still yours. It is perfectly normal to sacrifice appearance for a faster healing period.

The Connector

It might not be something that you want to think about; however, you will still need to decide the shape of the screw placed into your jaw. After all, a dental implant is only made possible by drilling the new tooth down and connecting it to the jaw bone.

Once again, there are three options to choose from. You can have an external hexagonal connector, internal hexagonal connector or an octagonal connector. The choice you make will have very little impact on the healing process but can improve access if things go wrong. The external hexagonal connector is placed outside the tooth, making it easier to attend but looser. The other two are far more permanent but can cause more long term issues if not looked after correctly.

Summary

You may be surprised by just how many different decisions there are when getting a dental implant. It looks daunting, but it takes your time to listen carefully to the professionals’ advice.
