How To Keep A Child’s Bed Area Tidy For Easier Living

Does your child’s bed look neat in the morning but end up covered with toys, books and clothes by evening? This occurs in most houses, particularly where children read and play in their beds besides sleeping.

If you’re choosing new bedroom furniture, a kids divan bed with storage drawers can give you somewhere to keep spare bedding. However, you can also organise the area around an existing bed without buying lots of furniture.

Here are some suggestions for various areas of your child’s bedroom, whether it’s bed setup or where things go throughout the day.

How To Organise Your Kids’ Bedroom

Many factors can make a space look cluttered, such as bedding, toys on the floor, or books scattered across the bed. Once you know what is creating the mess in the room, you can choose a few ideas that suit your child’s room.

●     Use The Space Under The Bed

In some cases, you can use the space under the bed for storage if your child’s bedroom doesn’t have enough cupboard space. You can keep things there that your child doesn’t need every day, leaving more space for their usual activities.

This space can be used for:

  • Spare bedsheets and pillowcases
  • Extra blankets for winter
  • Clothes for another season
  • Toys used only occasionally

In case you have a separate container, make sure you select a one that fits below without getting caught. The kid should also be in a position to access everything without moving the bed.

●     Keep The Bedding Simple

Your bed may get messy when it is full of cushions, blankets and toys. Simple bedding might imply that there are few things to move in case you need to sleep.

To use on a daily basis, you may only require:

  • A fitted bedsheet
  • A duvet with a washable cover
  • A suitable pillow
  • An extra blanket when needed

Choose bedding that your child can easily straighten. A bed-fitting duvet is normally easier to work with as opposed to one that hangs too much over the sides.

●     Find A Place For Bedtime Books

There can also be a lot of books on the bed or on the floor since your child may love reading before going to sleep. When all their favourite storybooks are on the same shelf, they can get them more easily as bedtime comes.

You could keep the books in:

  • A small bookcase
  • A wall-mounted book holder
  • A book rack near the reading area
  • A basket for bedtime stories

You don’t need to keep every book close to the bed. Let your child choose a few stories for the week and return the others to their usual bookcase.

●     Clear The Floor Around The Bed

Toys, clothes, and shoes can quickly collect on the floor around your child’s bed. Apart from looking untidy, these things can get in the way when your child gets up or walks around the room.

Check the area for:

  • Shoes left beside the bed
  • Clothes dropped after changing
  • School bags in the walkway
  • Toys all over the floor

Think about the area around the bed and other furniture. Small objects may fall into these gaps and remain there till you do something to clean up.

●     Place The Furniture Properly

The organisation of the bed area can be determined by the layout of the furniture in your child’s bedroom. A lot of furniture in a home could make some sections hard to use.

Before furniture is placed, check:

  • Whether drawers open fully
  • How much room is beside the bed
  • Whether the walkways stay clear
  • How easily you can change bedding

It is also best that you think about where your child spends most of their time playing. By not putting large furniture in that space, they gain additional space without necessarily needing the bed to do everything.

1.   Put Clothes In Their Place

When children change, some of them leave some items on the bed, such as shirts, school uniforms, etc. The gathering of clothes on the mattress can be avoided by allowing them to have their own space.

You could arrange the room with:

  • A laundry basket for worn clothes
  • A drawer for clean clothes
  • A hook for a dressing gown
  • A wardrobe area for school uniform

If your child changes their clothes in one place every day, it is best to have the laundry basket in that area. They can put worn clothes straight into it rather than carrying them across the bedroom.

Conclusion

There is no need to have a totally clean and neat bed space for your child during the day. When children are playing and getting ready to sleep, books, toys and clothes are moved around.

The critical point is to ensure that those things go somewhere after use. It is best to begin with what creates the most mess, and find a spot to keep it where you can get it when you need it.

When your child understands where to keep everything, it becomes easier to maintain order in the bed and the surrounding environment, not just for you, but for your child as well.
