How your kids can have fun indoors on a rainy day

Modified: Oct 24, 2019 · Published: Aug 19, 2019 by admin · This post may contain affiliate links or sponsored content

This summer has seen a lot of dreary weather, and it’s hard for the kids to stay occupied and entertained when the skies get cloudy and the rain starts to fall.

Unfortunately, heavy rain and strong winds have been a regular occurrence this past month, so it’s not always safe to go outside. Still, the summer holidays are the time for adventure and play. When the weather interferes with that, it can be difficult to keep everyone’s spirits lifted for days or even weeks at a time.

However, you can turn things around fast and make sure no one gets bored indoors. Order in some games or materials that Parcel2Go can easily deliver for you, and you have the makings of a fun summer holiday whatever the weather.

Create an obstacle course

Kids love being tested, and play should never be easy. Therefore, something like a homemade obstacle course for either their toys or themselves is a great way to go. There’s a sense of challenge involved, but also of chaos and high energy amusement too. If you’ve got a little boy who loves playing soldiers, this could be just the thing to keep him happy!

For example, you could get your hands on some crepe paper and masking tape and start sticking it across all the walls (preferably in a thin, landing area corridor in your home for ease and convenience). When you’re done, the kids will have their very own laser maze to contend with, ducking, dodging and weaving their way through. Cap it all off with some spy or action music when the challenge is underway, and fun times will be had!

Make gifts for friends

Another fun activity idea is to make gifts for friends. Bath bombs in a bag with personalised ribbons are always lovely. Or even homemade craft kits, cards or photo frames.

Fun with music

You don’t just need music for when you’re clambering through an obstacle course either. Some kid-sized instruments will work a treat as they jam away, form bands and test their talent. Your younger kids may just have fun banging on a drum, while any slightly older kids might want to channel their creativity into this new and exciting outlet. Let them try it out, as it could all be the start of a new long-term hobby!

They needn’t do all the playing either; musical chairs and other dance competitions are all the range in schools today and have been for years. It’s simply a go-to game to play for kids 12 and under, and they may be more willing to let loose and have fun in the safety of their own homes too. Music is your friend!

Arts and crafts kits

The good thing about being a kid is that they’re constantly creating imaginary worlds and make-believe scenarios. Therefore, you can’t go wrong with some arts and crafts. It can be an incredibly fun and social pastime too if you have more than one child too, so group them all together and embark on a project as a team.

They can trace one another’s bodies and hands or have no end of fun with the classic paper plate creations. Additionally, they could create masks of their favourite animals or superheroes, or they could teach one another basic origami. There’s no end of things to do where arts and crafts are concerned, so get all your materials and colouring utensils in and get to work!
