If the idea of having an organised home seems like something that can only happen in home makeover shows, you would be incorrect in that assessment. You can achieve the neat and orderly home of your dreams, too. All you need to do is take action, have a plan, and be consistent in your organising efforts. Here are some tips to set you off in the right direction.

Store Items Off-Site
Sometimes, in life, material items are abundant. Whether you have combined households and no longer have the space for everything, but you wish to keep it all, or maybe a loved one has left you large and beautiful pieces of furniture in their will, but you do not have the space to keep it or the heart to let it go. When these things happen, or any other scenario, it is time to invest in safe and secure storage units.
Even if your home is short on space, no rule says you have to pare down or get rid of anything. In fact, you have options. A storage unit is the perfect solution to ensure you get to keep what you want without having your home in disarray.
Adopt a Clean and Organise as You Go Mindset
If you are not familiar with the clean as you go mantra, basically it means that you clean something and put it away as soon as you are finished using it. Avoid setting it down while telling your future self that you will take care of it later. Your current self needs to take action to save time and stress later on.
This concept applies to both cleaning and organising within your home. If you make a purchase, try not to leave the bag or item on the counter or by the door. Instead, just take care of it. Put it where you want it to be; that is why you made the purchase, after all. This will save you time in the future and meet the need for the purchase while preventing more disarray at home.

Pay Attention to How and Where You Use Things
How you use the things in your home and where you use them will have a significant impact on where they should be located and how you organise everything. To illustrate, if you store your vacuum in the basement where you have laminate flooring installed, it will do you no good to keep it there, other than adding a few more steps to your day. Instead, you will save time by storing it on a floor where there is carpeting. Look for a place in your laundry room, storage closet, or coat closet instead.
Another example is in your kitchen. If you keep your spices and dry goods in a back cupboard in the mudroom, that is certainly not convenient when you are trying to get dinner on the table after a busy day. Assess your kitchen space and reorganise it based on how you use things and how often you use them. This will make your life much easier on a daily basis.
