When the time comes around to purchase your new family car, you need to sit down and have a good think about this. The last thing that you want is to purchase something that isn’t right for you, and then you’ve wasted a whole load of money on something you don’t actually use.

So, we’ve decided to help! In this article, we’re going to be exploring some of the key tips that we’ve got for you when it comes to buying your next family car. Want to know what they are? Continue reading.

What’s Your Budget?

The first thing that you need to determine is what your budget is going to be. You need to know how much you can reasonably afford to spend on a car before you start looking for one so that you don’t look at cars that are super far out of your price range. If you do this, chances are you’re going to fall in love with a specific car that you can’t have, and no budget car is going to match up to that.

So, think about whether you want to buy outright, or whether you want to finance your vehicle. If you decide to finance, just ensure that you can afford the payments.

New Vs Old

The next thing that you should think about is new vs old. Do you want to go for something new, or are you happy to purchase something that is second hand? Some people decide that they want a new car as there is a smaller risk of issues as there is no mileage on the vehicle. Used vehicles also have wear and tear, whereas new cars don’t have this.

However, what we do want to point out here is that new cars are a lot more expensive than second hand cars, which is what puts many people off buying them. If you have the money to spare though, it’s an option.

Size Of Vehicle

How many kids do you have? How much boot space are you going to need? Do you have all of the kids in the car quite frequently? All of these things need to be taken into consideration when you’re looking for a new vehicle.

There are a range of larger cars available for those who have more kids, or constantly have other people in their vehicle, and you don’t have to compromise safety, aesthetics, or quality the way that you used to. In fact, cars like the Peugeot 5008 are 7 seaters, but look visually fantastic.

Shop Around

It’s important that you shop around for your next family car, rather than just buying the first one that you come across that looks decent, and is affordable. Too many people don’t bother looking further than this because it means more effort, but it’s an important decision.

Chances are, you’re going to be able to find the same vehicle, or a similar vehicle, or a used version of the vehicle for cheaper somewhere else. Of course, this is just an option, but shopping around is in your best interests, and something we strongly advise.

Read Reviews

Now, it is essential you read reviews before heading out to buy your next car. This includes both reviews of the dealership you are using, and the review of the actual car you wish to purchase. There will be many reviews out there, and from real customers who have already purchased the vehicle. They will specify and state what the car is like, what it brings to everyday life, and if they regret their decision. One big factor when buying a new car is whether the boot space is big enough for family life. Videos from vloggers and write ups from reviewers will tell you exactly how much you can get in your new boot. It is often referred to as how many suitcases will fit!

Always Take A Test Drive

Something to bear in mind is that you should always try and arrange a test drive of any cars you are interested in. This is so you can get a feel for them and know how they handle on actual roads. There are many companies that now offer delivery straight to your door, so you don’t have to visit an actual dealership. The issue with this doorstep delivery is many people are just buying cars on a whim without test driving.

Book in, even if you need to wait a while. The last thing you want is to be uncomfortable on long drives or your kids not have enough leg room in the back. It might also be a great idea to check that any children’s car seats fit into the car you are interested in buying.

Ongoing Costs

Finally, the costs involved with a car purchase don’t just end when you part ways with your cash. You also need to consider how much it is going to cost you monthly in repairs, fuel, or insurance. There will always be extra costs that you may not have taken into consideration. Write everything down, including how much this is going to cost. That will give you a much greater idea of how much you need to have available in your budget.

Something that can take both you and your wallet by surprise is your tyres, many people just assume these last the duration of your car’s life.  However, that is simply not the case. You can expect to change your tyres every 20,000 to 50,000 miles. Many modern cars will tell you when your tyres need changing. Look for a mobile tyre fitting expert who can come to your location and provide you with the tyres you need.
