6 Ways to Save Money This Christmas

Having three children makes Christmas a very expensive time of year, so I was intrigued to read this brilliant guest post about to save money during the festive period.

6 Ways to Save Money This Christmas

For many parents, Christmas is the most stressful time of the year. You want to make the holiday magical for your kids, but your finances are always short of what you’d like to accomplish. If you need to save a little money on this year’s Christmas celebration, these six tips will make it easier.

1. Make a Christmas List

Sit down with your kids well before the holidays and get a list of everything they’re hoping to find beneath the tree. If there’s anything you’d like to add, now is the time to put it in. Then, develop a realistic picture of how much it’s going to cost.

2. Hunt for Coupons

From this great coupon for 20% off of Legos at Very.co.uk to this coupon for 10% off every clothing order at Boden, the holiday season is the best time to find great deals on gifts for your kids. Look specifically for coupons for the items on your Christmas list.

3. Start Shopping Early

Many stores now run great deals all through the month of November. When you start shopping early, you can take advantage of all of those great deals early in the season and spread your Christmas spending out a little further–a real plus for families on a tight budget.

4. Only Shop From Your List

This is the most challenging part of Christmas for many parents: sticking to the shopping list when shopping for your kids. You want your kids to have an amazing Christmas, so you keep convincing yourself to add just one more item. Before you know it, that sends your Christmas budget completely out of control! Instead, stick to your Christmas list whenever you go shopping.

5. Look for Budget Opportunities for Christmas Magic

Chances are, there are plenty of Christmas events taking place around town that will cost little or nothing to attend. Taking your kids for a walk or a drive to look at Christmas decorations doesn’t cost much, nor does a visit to Santa. Look for fun ways to enjoy the holiday together that don’t focus on spending even more money.

6. Watch Your Food Budget

When you’re attending holiday parties and events, sticking to your food budget can be tough! Choose your potluck contributions carefully. Don’t feel as though you have to go overboard on a meal just because it’s a holiday.

Keeping to your holiday budget can be a real challenge. By employing these strategies, however, you can enjoy the Christmas season without ending up in debt by 2017.
