10 Things That You Can Do Today To Feel Great

Do you ever have one of those days when you just feel a bit blah? When you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, and things just don’t feel right. You might be in a bad mood for no apparent reason. Or, you might have one of those mornings when everything seems to go wrong. Sometimes, it’s because something has gone wrong, or we’re not happy with some part of our lives. On other occasions, it’s because we’re bored, and sometimes things just aren’t right. 

On these occasions, you might need a bit of a boost. Something that will make you smile or boost your confidence. Something that will give you purpose and boost your mood. Doing things for yourself, for your health and wellbeing, can make you feel good, but so can doing things for other people. Things to help others that might not affect your life directly are often the things that boost your mood the most. If you want to do something to make yourself feel great, whether you are in a bad mood, unhappy, bored, or just want to feel amazing, here are some of the things that you could try. 

Live a Greener Life

Climate change is something that we’re all becoming far more aware of and concerned about. We’re reading about how much the world could change in the next few decades, and we’re starting to worry. Most of us are trying to find things, however small, which we could do to help. Making daily changes, and larger changes to your home can help you to feel like you are making a very real difference, and doing your bit to fight one of the biggest threats to our society today. Donate to Charity

There are charities for absolutely everything, and most of us are unable to give to them all. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t give at all. Find a charity that’s close to your heart. Perhaps that helps people that live near to you or that are in situations that you or a loved one has been in. You don’t have to donate a lot, but every little helps, and it will give you a significant mood boost. 

If you can’t donate money, donate time or goods to charity shops. Find other ways to help and do your bit. 

Give Blood

Blood is something that is always in demand. People need blood every day, to save their lives, improve their quality of life, or reduce symptoms. But there’s no infinite supply. This blood must be donated. Every donation can save up to three lives; most of us can do it, and most people that donate blood once often go on to do it again. It takes around 10 minutes to save three lives, and you’ll feel like a hero. 

Say Hi

The modern world is absolutely full of lonely people. People struggling with depression and other mental health issues. Anxious people that struggle to get out. People are walking past us every day that have had no human contact, and desperately need it. Start saying hello to people that you sit next to on the bus. Talk about the weather in the queue for coffee. You might make someone’s day, and the human contact won’t hurt your mood either.

Once we’ve left school, settled into jobs, and had families of our own, it becomes harder to maintain a relationship with our friends. We have little free time, they don’t either, and it’s all too easy to drift apart. Your friends might be feeling cut off, and you might too. Check-in from time to time, even if you haven’t seen them for a while, it’s never too late. 

Tidy Up

Clutter is a part of life for many of us. But it’s unhealthy, and it affects our mood. Clutter can mean that your home is musty and unhealthy and that you are more stressed-out than you should be. Declutter, donate some unwanted stuff to charity and tidy up your home. You’ll feel better for it. Spend some time whenever you can decluttering an area of your home when it starts to look tidier, you will start to feel pleased with your accomplishments. 

Listen to and Pay Compliments

We’re all guilty of paying more attention to the negatives than the positives. We hear loads of good comments, but it’s that one bad one that we remember. Start listening to compliments, and brush off anything negative (unless it’s constructive, and something you are keen to improve), and you’ll feel a lot better about yourself. Paying people compliments can help you to feel great too. 

Look for the Positives

We’re guilty of listening to the negatives, but even worse, we’re guilty of looking for them. We seek them out. We look for things that we are unhappy about in ourselves, our home, our career and our relationships. Start looking for positives instead, and you’ll feel much better. Spend some time every night thinking about the positives from your day, and you’ll go to bed much happier. 

Watch Your Manners

Manners cost nothing, but they make everyone feel better. Say, please, and thank you. Hold doors open and offer to carry someone’s shopping. Even when you are busy, make an effort to be polite, and you’ll improve the mood of everyone you speak to. They’ll be nicer to you, and they might treat other people better too. 

Exercise

If you need a quick mood boost, there’s nothing better than exercise. Exercising boosts your confidence, releases adrenaline, and gives you a fast pick me up. If you are feeling low, try to fit in a workout or at least go for a walk out in the fresh air. For longer-term effects, try to build healthy exercise habits and get into a positive routine.
