Easy Scary Hedgehog Cake

My challenge for my 16-year-old’s birthday was to make a scary hedgehog cake. I was given a selection of images from the Internet for inspiration.

While walking around the supermarket looking for ingredients, I spotted a Happy the Hedgehog cake. I picked him up, along with some ready-made chocolate sponge cakes, chocolate icing, edible eyes and teeth sweets, and set about changing Happy the Hedgehog to a less happy looking hedgehog.

Step 1

Unbox Happy the Hedgehog.

Step 2

Remove the face and legs from the cake.

Step 3

Use ready-made sponge cake to create a hedgehog face.

Step 4

Cover with icing.

Step 5

Decorate: I found teeth and lip sweets in Waitrose, and we used matchmakers for spikes.
