Three Essentials To pack In Your Hospital Bag As An Expectant Mother

The arrival of a baby is a very exciting time, and preparing for the arrival can add more excitement. It’s important to make sure that you pack your hospital bag properly and have everything that you need ready and waiting so that the process can be more relaxed and you can focus on the big day when it does arrive. So that you feel as prepared as you can be.

Have a look at these essentials that you need to make sure you pack in your hospital bag when you are expecting a baby:

Important Documents

Before you think about putting anything else in your hospital bag, you need to make sure that you have all the important documents that you need. You’ll need to make sure you’ve got your insurance information,  your ID, and any other paperwork that you have received during your pregnancy. Some hospitals might ask that you be pre-registered, so if you have already filled out these forms, you need to make sure they are also in your bag. It’s also a good idea to have a copy of any birth plans that you have put together so that you can hand your preferences for labor and delivery to your healthcare team.

It could be useful to grab yourself a folder and add all these documents to it so that you can grab them out when you arrive at the hospital.

Clothing For Mom

Labor can be an unpredictable time; therefore, you need to make sure that you are packing comfy clothing. Think about bringing some loose, comfortable nightgowns or maybe some oversized T-shirts that you don’t mind getting a bit messy. It can be a little bit nippy in the hospital, so make sure you pack a lightweight robe and some non-slip socks, too. It’s also a good idea to pack a nursing bra and nursing-friendly tops or nightgowns after you have delivered.

Baby Essentials And Clothing

This is an exciting part of packing your hospital bag, as you get to pack all the outfits that your newborn is going to wear. You need to choose a few outfits in different sizes, as you may not know how big your baby is going to be. Most will fit into newborn sizes; however, if your baby is in the larger size, you might need some 0-3 months. Choose soft, comfortable baby clothing that is simple to take off, like onesies and socks. Make sure you include a hat and a pair of mittens so you can stop them from accidentally scratching themselves.

You will also need to pack a baby blanket and burping cloths for feeding. You may find that some hospitals provide diapers and wipes; however, it is a good idea to check this beforehand so you aren’t left without. Try not to overpack, as you will need to carry all of this in with you when you go into labor. Your birthing partner can always head off and bring in some more essentials if they are needed.

These are just three of the essentials that you need to take to the hospital with you. Will you be taking anything else? Let us know in the comments below.
