As a parent, you are very aware of the fact that those magical years with your young children will pass in the blink of an eye. Naturally, then, you will be eager to play the most active role during precious moments of recreation.

While you will need a strategy to get this right, it’s quite easy to put this in place.  Here are six of the best tips to put you on the path to success.

1| Find Video Games You Can Play Too

Kids will play video games. Even if you’re not a very good gamer, there are ways for you to participate in this activity. Games like Mahjong are particularly useful as you can teach them the rules and strategies. Likewise, the necessary computer skills are minimal. Alternatively, you could look at VR games that turn your body into the controller. This way, you don’t need to have the hand-eye coordination or dexterity of other games.

2| Enjoy Family-Friendly Films

As well as video games, kids will enjoy TV time. As a parent, you need to ensure that this is a healthy relationship. Afternoons watching family-friendly movies with popcorn can be a great option. This allows you to check what they are consuming while also making it a more social event than being locked in their rooms. It is an approach that allows you to limit TV time by focusing on quality rather than quantity.

3| Find Family Days Out

While spending quality time together at home is great, you also want to create memories away from the home. Days out are the perfect solution. Selecting an attraction that offers something for all members of the family should be the priority. Whether it’s a theme park, the beach, or a theatre is up to you. Either way, an activity that you’ll want to participate in rather than simply chaperone the kids is ideal.

4| Choose Family Sports

As well as single days out, you should look to add activities that can be enjoyed frequently. Family sports are the perfect choice. Whether playing in the garden or the local park, the benefits are huge. It supports physical growth, cognitive development, and communicational skills. Moreover, the friendly, competitive nature will bring you closer together. If your child joins an amateur team, try to be an active and supportive parent.

Another great way to stay active is by using interactive playground equipment together. Climbing frames, swings, and obstacle courses provide fun physical challenges that improve coordination and strength. Joining your child in these activities keeps you engaged while encouraging their confidence and motor skills development.

5| Make Chores Fun

Finding time to join your child in recreational activities isn’t always easy as a parent. So, turning chores like cooking into something fun that you enjoy together is advised. You can find plenty of family-friendly recipes like pizza. An Ooni pizza oven will take this to the next level. Of course, baking cakes or making salads is great too. For younger children, presenting foods to look like their favourite cartoon characters is ideal.

6| Read With Them

Reading to kids from an early age will help them develop a love of reading and creative stories. You should also listen to them reading once they reach school age. It’s a good way to spend time together and actively monitor their progress. Moreover, it can be a fantastic activity for calming down before bedtime. When you incorporate some fun activities like home crafts too, the relationship with learning will improve.
