Austria is a fantastic location for a family holiday at any time of year. Winter in the mountains is great for skiing and other snow sports while in summer the ski area transforms into a haven for hikers, cyclists and families with plenty of opportunities for adventures. Autumn and spring are good time to explore the beautiful cities of Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck. Whatever your family look for in a holiday, you’ll find it in Austria.

2. Winter Sports

Austria is a dream location for winter sports with world class ski resorts such as St. Anton, Solden and Ischgl. Families will love the gentle beginner slopes while more experienced skiers won’t be disappointed with plenty of challenging off-piste skiing available too. Most resorts have modern efficient lift systems with easy access to slopes and the towns offer lively apres-ski. Austria offers a huge variety of ski accommodation including luxury ski chalets, family hotels and more budget options.

Other Winter Activities include ice skating, sledding, shoe shoeing and hiking.

3. Summer Adventures

Austria in summer time is incredible. The weather is warm enough to be happy swimming in lakes and relaxing in the mountains, but not too hot that exploring is difficult. The Tyrol area is full of hiking and cycling routes, with plenty of family friendly hotel options. There are 100s of family friendly walking trails, often with small parks and family activities along the route to keep kids of all ages occupied and happy. The lakes area are full of people paddle boarding, swimming and kayaking as well as sunbathing on the beach areas. It’s the type of holiday where you can do as much or a little as you want and the kids will definitely not run out of things to do.

4. Historic Cities and Charming Villages

Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck are beautiful cities with great shopping, museums and plenty of impressive architecture. Innsbruck’s picturesque Old Town is home to the iconic Golden Roof, brightly coloured houses, narrow streets and bustling town squares.

Between the cities are traditional villages. Hallstatt is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on the shores of Lake Hallstatt. Alpbach is a beautiful ski town full of wooden houses and ski chalets and breathtaking views and there’s plenty more to explore.

Sports fans will love the city of Spielberg where visitors can buy tickets to watch Formula 1 in style at the Red Bull Ring with the stunning backdrop of the Austrian alps.

The unique charm of Austria’s towns and villages offer something for everyone and should definitely be a part of a family holiday to Austria.

5. World Class Food and Hospitality

Austrian people are warm and welcoming and the hotels, restaurants and shops offer great service. Traditional Austria cuisine includes hearty stews and delicious pastries and cakes. Fluffy Krapfen doughnuts and the infamous Apfelstrudel are definitely not to be missed.
