Mr Know-it-all

We are driving along past a train station.

Z – ‘What are those birds doing Mummy’

Me – ‘Errmmm, sat on a tree watching the trains’

Z sounding very impatient – ‘No they are not Mummy. WHAT are they doing’

Me – ‘just having a rest in the tree?’ I say hopefully….

Z now VERY impatient – ‘NO MUMMY, they are watching TV. YOU are always wrong. You don’t know anything do you? I am always right, I know everything’

Sooooo, part of me thinks that being so confident that you know everything at age 4 ( only just ) is a good thing, but it does mean that we both get very frustrated. Me because I just can’t tell him anything.

Z – ‘Whats that Mummy ‘

Me – ‘A place where cars get washed’

Z – ‘No, its where you get new tyres’ ( It was most definately a car wash )

Then Z gets frustrated because I don’t say what he thinks is the right thing. I thought children were supposed to hang on your every word and believe everything you said. Mine tells me I don’t know anything and comes home from nursery trying to teach me the spanish words he has learned that day. Then my two year old asks me how many fingers she is holding up and then say’s ‘well done Mummy’. I’m sure I’m intelligent really….why don’t my kids realise that?
