DIY Bedroom: 5 Pieces To Make Your Room Sparkle

January 13, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

We’ve just had a loft conversion and are now at the stage where we need to make the rooms look good. I want the whole space to look amazing, so am thrilled to be able to share this guest post with  tops tips for making a room sparkle today!

As you can see we’ve got a blank canvas to work with and I’m quite nervous about messing it up!

Whether you are drill-wielding dyed-in-the-wool DIY fanatic or someone who shudders at the mere sight of a screwdriver, your bedroom is a project that you really shouldn’t put off. A bedroom needs to be a comfortable retreat from the stresses and strains of everyday life and the good news is that it can be that without the need for a long a complicated list of tasks. DIY fans and foes alike can quickly and easily improve their room by searching out a few key pieces that will do the job for you.

Here’s the five that we think you should search out…

The bed

It might sound obvious, but it’s actually easy to forget the bed in all of this. Don’t focus on anything else until you’re happy with your bed. Not only is this the piece of furniture that the room is for in the first place but it’s also the design showpiece at the heart of your room and an item that could double up as a super-useful storage aid too. That last point is important since your room is in no danger of sparkling if your room is untidily littered with ‘stuff’. Try to find a bed that serves the right practical and aesthetic need for your ideal room and everything else. There are so many different types out there to look at, from four posters right through to zip and link beds – Divan Beds Centre is a decent place to start for ideas.

Wardrobe

Speaking of storage, there’s no item more important for this than your wardrobe. This is the organizational godsend that will help to get all of your clothes into some sort of order and keep them neatly tucked away out of sight. From standalone wardrobes to built-in and bespoke sliding doors, pick the right one to suit your room’s need – this guide from Homedit should help.

Lighting

There are both practical and aesthetic benefits to getting your lighting right. The shade you put on your main bulb, for example, will determine how much light illuminates your room and could also create some neat effects if you wish. A good bedside lamp, however, is an essential purchase. It’s this that will help you to be able to race through a few chapters of your latest read before you drift off into a deep and relaxing slumber. Again, there’s lots of choice in this field. Check out The Independent’s guide to get a flavour for some of the best ones you could shop for.

Bedside table

Which brings us to the item you’ll be placing your lamp on. The bedside table doesn’t just serve as a lamp stand, though. It can give you some useful at-arm’s-length storage for the things you need close by. Most tables are fairly similar, but these do make for great ‘upcycle’ projects, as Style Made Simple demonstrates. With a little creative flair, this otherwise-humble piece of furniture can really give you some sparkle.

Bedside tables are also the easiest DIY project anyone can undertake. All you need are some cutting tools, a few screws, and an MDF board cut to size. Then, it’s easy to assemble a handcrafted piece with a touch of uniqueness in the bedroom.

Pictures

How about a bit of personality in your room? A bit of artwork or, if you prefer, a good photograph can be the cherry on the cake to your perfect bedroom. Choose something that makes you happy – a shot of your favourite holiday destination, perhaps – and display it in a quality frame.
