Making a kid-friendly bedroom sounds easy, right? However, you may or may not know that this isn’t as simple as it first appears, especially if you want a space that’s easy to keep tidy. However, there are some little tricks you can use to avoid the dreaded LEGO collapse! From effective storage solutions to labelling for organisation, here are some handy suggestions.

Visually Control the Sleep Routine

Any parent knows that getting the kids down at night can be a nightmare. But a bedroom is for exactly that, and children should feel like they can count sheep and fall asleep in a safe and cosy space. Something as simple as installing colourful blinds adds to the decor, but you can also control the sleep routine with sunlight control, which is great for summer, and makes morning easier too. LED projectors and nightlights are also excellent sleeping aids for kids.

Use Simple but Effective Storage

There are tons of storage solutions these days, and companies like IKEA offer entire bedroom suites designed around the idea. However, without breaking the bank, there are some simple ideas that can help keep your kids’ rooms safe and tidy without throwing everything out. For example, you can use open bins for rubbish like paper, add baskets for storing loose items such as crayons and install low shelves rather than cupboards for their little arms to put things away.

Declutter for a Kid-Friendly Bedroom

As adults, many of us love to declutter and keep things tidy, but it can be a challenge in the children’s sleeping space. You can let your kids decorate their own rooms so they feel content in their space. However, this should be limited to things like colours rather than practical solutions. Otherwise, decluttering and keeping the space tidy can become a massive headache. To prevent clutter from becoming an issue, try using the “one in, one out” rule for toys and games.

Label Everything for Quick Organisation

Staying organised can be a challenge at the best of times, and gets a bit harder in the messy bedrooms of toddlers, little kids and teens. However, you can gamify keeping the place clean and tidy with labels. Picture labels on boxes to show where toys, books and clothing belong can make the act of tidying up something of a game. However, it also helps develop their reasoning skills and teaches them some responsibility from an early age, which they will use later on.

Use All Available Vertical Space

Did you know there is a vast amount of space in your home that you aren’t using? We are so focused on using floor space that we never think about the vertical wall space in a room.  There are tons of ways to use vertical space and clear up a room for increased safety and better organisation of your child’s bedroom. One of the easiest is to install shelving for books and knick-knacks, but you can also use over-door hangers for clothing and storage pouches.

Summary

An appealing visual sleep routine with lights will help you create a kid-friendly bedroom that helps them stay content in their space. It also helps to declutter now and then, and you can use the vertical space in a room to keep things tidy and organised when floor space is limited.
