Lechuza – Self Watering Planter

I am not very good with plants, I forget to water indoor ones and pretty much everything we grow outside gets eaten by slugs, so the idea of a self watering planter really appeals to me.

Lechuza, from the makers of PLAYMOBIL have not disappointed.

The Balconera can be attached to railings or walls, but we love ours just sat on the kitchen windowsill. The Balconera 50 set comes with the planter, plant liner and sub irrigation system. It look us less than 10 minutes to set up and as you can see our herbs are flourishing.

The plant liner has sturdy handles so it’s easy to remove from the planter for planting or transport and has a drain plug so rainwater can drain easily. The planter itself is made from high quality plastic which looks great indoors, but would also look fantastic hung on a balcony outdoors.

LECHUZA’s sub-irrigation system takes care of your plants for you for up to 12 weeks, ensuring that they receive the right amount of water and nutrients they need for optimum growth.

We’ve been watering them  about once a week, which even I can manage.

LECHUZA-PON is available to add to your planter. This stores nutrients and releases them to the plant as needed, as well as protecting pH levels, and storing water. Almost completely taking the hassle away from growing plants.

The Lechuza Puro is another great planter, with the same features as the Balconera. I just LOVE how smart this one looks on my windowsill.

They look great!!!

Now I’ve managed to keep some plants alive for a few weeks, I’m determined to get the kids gardening a bit more, especially as our garden is a bit of a mess at the moment.

Jean Vernon, Gardening Correspondent for The Daily Telegraph and Lechuza have some great tips to make gardening more fun, including growing flowers to attract butterflies, or things that smell nice, or even food for pets.

We’re going to be trying those tips and more over on Science Sparks very soon.
