Summer snaps

September 3, 2015 by admin 3 Comments

It’s been a funny Summer, time seems to have flown by, but at the same time it seems like a long time since school finished. For some reason I thought it’d be easier over Summer to get lots done and had planned on clearing out our house of toys and clothes we don’t use and creating lots of great content for my Science YouTube channel, but it hasn’t quite worked out like that. The days and weeks have disappeared in a flash of park trips, seeing friends and generally trying to keep on top of an endless messy house.

I was thinking we hadn’t really done much, but when I looked through my photos I realised we’d actually been pretty busy, despite not making much of a dent in my to-do list and I think the kids have had a great time, which is all that matters.

I didn’t manage anything like my planned video a day, but we did do a few craft and science activities including a multicoloured volcano, frozen fizzy stars, marble painting and fizzy lemons.

The girls LOVED their first horse riding lesson, although I don’t think it’s something we’ll necessarily do again soon. I love this photo of the two of them stood together. They’re almost the same height now, despite the two year age gap. Mostly they’ve been the best of friends this holiday, playing games of ‘Brothers and Sisters’ for hours on end or building huge Playmobil or LEGO cities. I have worried that I have’t taken them on as many day trips as I should have, but it’s been great to see the girls and Zak actually have the time to play with their toys and it’s been lovely for me to watch them play so imaginatively, constructively and nicely together.

MoneySuperMarket kindly paid for us to try skiing as part of their brilliant Balance Transfer Your Life campaign which was a brilliant experience and definitely the start of a new love of snow sports for the kids. We just need to save up to go on a proper ski holiday now.

Our local park has just been completely renovated so we’ve spent many a happy hour there and managed to run into lovely friends on each visit. One afternoon we were there for three and a half hours as different friends came and went, completely unplanned.

Syd has spent much of Summer upside down. She reminds me of one of those toys with sticky hands and feet, she can just attach herself to anything and hang.

Hannah turned 5, which we celebrated with a trip to GoApe at Alice Holt. I wasn’t sure how she’d be, but as usual my brave little girl rose to the challenge.

Sticking with the forest theme we had a great day out at Moors Valley Country Park, trying the Superworm trail. You can find the trails at Forestry Commission sites around the country so do check the website for more details.

All in all we had a pretty great Summer. My back to schools thoughts are a bit jumbled as I try to refocus on the many exciting projects I have planned, but more updates coming soon.

What a wonderful summer, I don’t think anyone’s summer has gone to plan but sometimes they make the best days. I adore the photo of your girls standing ready for horse riding – adorable.

Exciting projects ey? I can’t wait to hear more Emma!

Summer whizzed by, it already seems like an age ago to me. Lovely shots – a good park close to home makes a big difference doesn’t it? Our local one’s just had a facelift too 🙂
